A
Note...
History was not
one of my strong points in school. I thought it boring and "Why
should I need to know all that "old" stuff" anyway," was hard
for me to understand.
But history has
been handed down since the beginning of time. First verbally, and
then written. It is said that history repeats itself and that we
should learn from it. In light of what is currently going on, I have
a tendency to wonder if we have really learned anything at all.
It
wasn't until we were going through the effects of a great uncle that I
took a personal and vast interest in my own history and how it was
inter-woven into American History. A small spiral note book had
written in it "cousin to George Washington" and then proceeded to list
names of people that was thought could be connected to my own family.
Well, the search was on and I've been searching history ever
since.
Our own history
is pretty typical of small communities that settled along a rail
road. Some, like ours, has grown and become part of a larger
community of cities that have grown together for the betterment of the
people. Others have become virtual ghost towns and disappeared from
the map, many are somewhere in-between.
Ours
is a success story and it is hoped with the initiation of the Clive
Historical Society we can preserve and document our own History. But
we need your support and help. We are seeking pictures of Clive, the
way it "was" and the way it "is.". Before and after pictures would
be great. If you have pictures of your property we would certainly
like to have a "copy" made to document the changes and growth.
Early
families are very much in need of documentation and without the help of
family members, it is impossible to get the needed information.
Respectfully,
Linda
